GMF-Gouda introduces: 4th generation dry peel remover

Proven concept
GMF-Gouda Sepa-Stator Steam Peeler
GMF-Gouda Sepa-Stator Steam Peeler
More than 300 Brush-'n-Belt dry peel removers have been installed since GMF-Gouda started the development of this machine in 1975. Most of the machines are integrated in industrial steam peeling lines that may comprise a GMF-Gouda Sepa-Stator steam peeler, a Brush-'n-Belt dry peel remover, a peel waste pump and an after washer. In the steam peeler the product is subjected to an intensive and extremely short steam treatment. The separation of the generated hot condensate water from the products is part of this system. The result is well peeled product with a minimal heat ring, high dry matter content of the peel waste and minimal peel losses. Having left the pressure vessel with the peel almost completely detached, the products and peel waste are transported to the Brush-'n-Belt dry peel remover via the metering auger. In the Brush-'n-Belt the peel waste is removed from the product in a dry process by brushes and the adhesive action of the belt that moves in reverse direction to the product flow. The peel waste is removed from the belt by a scraper and pumped to a storage tank. Meanwhile the 95% cleaned product is transported to a small drum washer for final cleaning.

New generation: remarkable innovations

The design of the latest generation GMF-Gouda Brush-'n-Belt dry peel removers shows a number of remarkable innovations. To reduce the weight of the brushes and shafts, a number of changes in the construction were made. The steel shafts were replaced by two stainless steel shaft ends with flanges which are fixed mounted in the machine. The basic pipes of the brushes are re-engineered and made of lightweight material now. The brush pipe itself is closed at both ends, thus preventing water or dirt to enter into the pipe. This new concept makes cleaning of the machine much easier, whilst CIP cleaning of specific parts of the machine is possible now.

Light weight construction
The light weight construction of the brushes decreases the weight with 30% compared to the brushes of the former Brush-'n-Belt types. Taking the brushes and shafts into account, a weight reduction of even almost 65% (type BDL1450) was realized. The weight reduction has made maintenance and replacement of brushes easier and less labour intensive. Another contributing factor to this is the fact that the brushes of the new Brush-´n-Belt are mounted and dismounted via the bottom side of the machine now.

Individual settings
For processing potatoes the bristle length of the new brushes has been increased. This results not only in more flexibility but also allows a more gentle operation of the brushes, offering lower unwanted peel losses and an extended life time of the brushes. Also contributing to a better processing of the products is the possibility to individually set the speed of the brushes. To realize this, the central drive was replaced by electrical motors for each individual brush. An additional advantage of this new drive concept is the fact that V-belts, timing belts, pulleys, etc. have become obsolete, whilst the noise production and maintenance will reduce significantly.

Improved construction PVC belt

The Brush-'n-Belt's characteristic PVC belt, which adhesive action removes the peel waste out of the product area, was re-engineered at several points. The main improvement was realized by changing the belt frame. Where the old machines were fitted with spindles to lift the belt frame, this new generation makes use of a smart hinge construction. This new system offers a very smooth belt frame without any obstructions whilst replacement of the belt itself has become even easier than it was with the present model. Also the belt tension control was re-engineered. Now the tension control is at the discharge side of the Brush-'n-Belt. At the input side the belt roller is mounted in a fixed position, thus maintaining a constant input opening under all conditions. Driving the belt by the roller at the input side makes the belt tension within the product section more uniform.

With the new Brush-'n-Belt GMF-Gouda proves to set the standard for efficiency, capacity, ease of maintenance, energy consumption and environmental friendliness. The innovative new generation dry peel removers is the result of a high degree of specialization in industrial food processing. Based on almost hundred years of expertise GMF-Gouda is able to build tailor-made production lines for the food processing industry. Engineering, design, installation and start-up are performed by GMF-Gouda to guarantee the realization of customers' goals. Often the processes are simulated in a pilot plant facility before the design and engineering phase. Combined with the state of the art manufacturing technologies GMF-Gouda offers an integrated approach for the configuration of food production and processing lines.
