| Spiral Flash Dryer | |
The GMF Spiral Flash Dryer is a mature, patented system that is perfectly adapted to the food and chemical industries. The unique design achieves excellent heat and mass transfer rates way beyond those of conventional processors. Perfect for treating wet slurries and filter cakes, such as native starch products and powders. |

The principle |
Raw, wet product enters from above directly in the dryer and falls to the lower section of the chamber in the 'Toroïdal bed' where it is supported by linear jets of process gas from below. The specially angled annular blade arrangement guides and controls the flow, creating horizontal motion in the air-product mix and a gently rotating compact bed of floating particles. The angled slots act as precision jets, injecting process gas very effectively into the compact bed of fluidised product |

The process |
In a conventional fluid bed, air velocity merely supports the weight of particles in the chamber. Inside the chamber of the Spiral Flash Dryer, particles move in a typical toroïdal spiral flow pattern. So product continually feeds back into the area of turbulence. The high air velocity to which lower particles are exposed means a very efficient thermal transfer. The process air has a relative long and intensive contact time with the particles in the compact product layer. The product retention time, on the other hand, is adjustable but kept to a minimum. Dried particles release, are lighter and float upwards to the cyclones or other powder separation system. Here, air is released and product funnels down and is collected as dry powder.
